Julian Alvarez emerged as the hero for City, scoring the decisive goal in the second half. The Argentine forward drove home a right-footed shot from the center of the box, leaving Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich helpless.

Earlier, Leipzig had stunned Etihad Stadium by scoring twice in quick succession. Andre Silva opened the scoring in the 21st minute, followed by Christopher Nkunku's penalty just four minutes later.
