Negative Antigen Tests for COVID-19
FDA Recommendations for Individuals with Symptoms
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released new guidelines for individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. According to the agency, two negative antigen tests are necessary to rule out the presence of the virus.
Unreliable Negative Results
Antigen tests, commonly used for home testing, may provide inaccurate negative results, especially in the early stages of infection. Therefore, the FDA recommends repeated testing for individuals presenting with symptoms, regardless of an initial negative result.
Positive Test Results
In contrast, positive antigen test results are generally reliable and should be considered accurate, regardless of symptoms. Individuals who test positive should seek medical attention immediately.
