Canadian Dental Care Plan to Roll Out by End of Year
Expanding Access to Dental Care for Canadians
Implementation and Funding
As outlined in Budget 2023, the Government of Canada is implementing the Canadian Dental Care Plan to improve access to dental care for Canadians. By the end of this year, the plan will begin rolling out, providing much-needed support for lower-income families and children.
The program is projected to cost $13 billion over five years, starting in 2023-24. This funding will be complemented by an additional $44 billion over the following five years, totaling $57 billion in investments.
Eligibility and Benefits
The Canadian Dental Care Plan will provide direct payments to eligible recipients, covering basic dental services such as cleanings, fillings, and x-rays. The plan will initially target low-income families and children under 12 years old.
The eligibility criteria will be based on income levels. Families with an adjusted net income below $90,000 will qualify for the program. Children under 12 years old from all income levels will be eligible.
Benefits for Canadians
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is expected to have a significant impact on the health and well-being of Canadians. By providing access to affordable dental care, the plan will help reduce oral health disparities and improve overall health outcomes.
The plan will also reduce the financial burden of dental care on families, freeing up resources for other essential expenses such as education, housing, and food.
